Oxford Town and Gown 2010 – entries open (finally)

February 1, 2010

Update 15 February 2010: Entries really are open now! You can sign up here. Race entries are limited to about 3000, which should all go, so while there’s time to register, don’t leave it too long…

Recently, I’ve been bemoaning the lack of any real information about the 2010 Oxford Town and Gown 10k race. Although it’s by far the biggest racing event in Oxford’s calendar, the pre-race publicity is usually fairly chaotic with websites popping into and out of existence. Despite all this, it’s included in my list of the top 10 races for 2010, and I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to assemble a Team Pearson to take part in the event. (I know a few Pearson bods read this, so yes I’m looking at you Holdsworth and Burrell.)

The good news is that today, 1 February 2010, soon entries open (yes, post-event edit because the opening seems to have been delayed by at least a week) for the Oxford Town and Gown. Details can be found on the Muscular Dystrophy website, here. The race will be held on the morning of Sunday 16 May 2010, causing annual carnage with transport in the centre of the city as roads are shut and runners fill up Oxford’s limited free parking spaces.

The race is flat, snaking through the centre of Oxford, passing some of the city’s famous colleges and through the University Parks. As it cuts through a fairly small network of roads, it’s the perfect event to get good support from spectators as they can easily move between different parts of the route to provide cheers and goodwill as you progress round. A full course preview can be found here.

It’s a race well worth running for a cause well worth supporting, and entries are open – so what are you waiting for?
