I don’t usually do this kind of thing

May 14, 2010

I don’t normally do this. The potential for disappointment is usually too great. I wouldn’t normally put myself out like this. But, hey, why not ride life through the ups and downs.

Recently, I’ve been trying to find my pace again. I managed to run the Blenheim 7k at a sub-40 10k pace despite the trail sections and notorious undulations. I’ve been chasing the fastest runners at jog club, and sticking closer to their heels than before. Maybe I’m not as slow as I fear I’ve become. Maybe a good shot of adrenaline will see me good for Sunday’s Town & Gown 10k.

The conditions for Sunday look good. Sunny spells, warm – but not too warm – with a mild breeze. I have my new shoes. I have my new Abingdon Amblers vest. I’m ready.

So, here we go. I’m targeting 39 minutes. That’s three minutes away from where I want to be by the end of the year, but just 15 seconds off the pace of last year’s PB.

Either way, I’m looking forward to the post-race beer in a nice Oxford pub. Well earned, and almost certainly isotonic.
