Rest days
I’m tapering, I guess. I’ve got a half marathon to run on the weekend, and thus far this week I have run on Sunday (14 miles in the heat) and Wednesday (today, 7 miles in the relative cool). Meetings in London and common sense dictate that I’ll run tomorrow, but have a break on Friday and Saturday in preparation for the race.
I tend to forget the importance of rest days. Feeling bad for not having run for a few days, I hit the road today and it felt surprisingly easy to keep a decent pace.
While I’ve not had the most traditional of rest days (in the last 48 hours I must have had somewhere in the region of 8 hours sleep due to various very enjoyable social engagements), my muscles have had a chance to recover from the strains of my usual training routine. Sure, I might have felt more like running had I been a bit less like a sleep-deprived zombie, but I was rested nonetheless.
All I need now is for the weather to stray away from the oppressive humidity of recent days for Sunday’s race.
I assume you are running the Wycombe half, me too. Weather should be dry at first with a bit of rain about 10.00am and then overcast toward the end of the race. Wind calm – so it’s looking like good race conditions. Might see you there?.
Yep, it’s the Wycombe Half tomorrow. Might be needing that rain after the first couple of miles – there’s a 225ft climb! Good luck for the race.
