Royal Parks Half Marathon registration

February 15, 2011

This year entry to the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon will be through an online ballot rather than a first-come-first-served free for all. Registration opens on Wednesday 16 February and will be open until 5pm on 2 March. Successful applicants will be informed on 4 March 2011.

If you’re interested in applying (even despite the rather steep entry fee of £45), you can find full details here.

It’s worth remembering that if you pay up front before you know that you’ve actually got a place, you are agreeing to donate the £45 entry fee to the Royal Parks Foundation charity. While there are additional benefits to encourage you to pay up front (including a hoodie), it’s an interesting new take on fundraising. However, since last year’s race entries sold out in 2 hours 40 minutes, the demand for places is clearly there.

The race has been an annual fixture since only 2008, when just under 7000 finishers completed the 13.1 miles in the centre of London. In 2010, just under 11,000 runners completed the course. As an expanding race set in the centre of London, it will be interesting to see how large it can get within the constraints of the London parks that define it.
